In 2012, I embarked on a heartfelt journey to make a difference in the lives of those in need. I started my foundation, the Benzone Development Foundation, with the hope of helping underprivileged children break the cycle of poverty while using holistic approaches. Our mission was to support individuals, particularly young mothers and children, who faced incredible hardships.
One of our main activities was visiting hospitals, where we paid medical bills and focused on maternity wards. Many young girls, often victims of rape, had to bear the heavy burden of motherhood all alone. I did my best to assist them in any way I could. I also visited orphanages to help children with their assignments and styled their hair on weekends. With consent, I captured precious moments and shared them on social media.
However, my good intentions were met with some criticism. People believed that good deeds should be done quietly and that by posting about my work, I was seeking recognition. This backlash made me hesitant, and I eventually stopped sharing my efforts, losing a significant amount of documented work.
Despite the challenges, I realized the importance of visibility and connection with like-minded individuals. I resumed sharing my journey and got my foundation officially registered. Last December, I was overwhelmed by the support from people who reached out, expressing their appreciation for my commitment. It may have been a small gesture, but it marked the beginning of great things.
This year, I received a generous donation of £130 to support an orphanage from my contacts. This contribution reinforced my belief that people are noticing and that our efforts are making a difference.
I want to take this opportunity to encourage everyone not to give up when they feel unnoticed. People do notice, and they want to see how far you’ll go on your own. When you have a vision, stay committed to it, no matter what.
Thank you to everyone who has supported and believed in me. Together, we can make a positive impact on the world.
